Do you have any “memory scents?” If you are like me, these are the smells that instantly take you back to childhood, or a specific place and time, whether good, or bad. The incense of a funeral, or the closed up musty smell of a cabin can evoke deep feelings and a myriad of meaning. For me, summer is best captured in the sent given off of by dry grasses and sun-bleached brush with the hint fresh water and pond-life smells in the distance. If I smell that smell, or something close to it, I am instantly transported back to my Uncle Joe’s property and the bare footed days of glorying in God’s creation with my very beloved Grandpa’s lack of supervision. What a joy.
May you relish in the lush sights and smells of these summer days, enjoying the taste of fresh fruit and veg, while the sun gently warms your skin and breezes refresh. With such a bounty of God’s blessings, calling all of us to a sense of gratitude, may these experiences evoke wonderful memories for you as well. Enjoy!
Smells like summer
Whispering wind dances through rustling leaves,
caressing the summer’s sun-kissed tapestry.
Golden rays dip below the horizon’s embrace,
painting hues of warmth upon the sky’s canvas.
Footsteps tread upon a path of memories,
echoes of laughter and gentle sighs.
Inhaling the scent of freshly cut grass,
the fragrance of blooming dreams fills the air.
Birdsong weaves a symphony of serenity,
as nature’s chorus hums a lullaby.
Silken whispers ripple across tranquil waters,
whispering secrets to attentive ears.
Beneath the moon’s tender gaze, shadows play,
casting enchantment upon the slumbering earth.
And as the night descends in hushed tranquility,
dreams softly awaken, carried by the sighs of summer.
