Fall brings a bit more structure and routine to many of us. Start one, or two of these practices to tie in faith and show your family members that they are loved.
1. When packing lunches, drop in a scripture note card for some encouragement, such as, “Romans 8:31: If God is for us, who can be against us?” Premade cards are available from a variety of vendors, or you can create your own.
2. Pack a rich, red apple, or other seasonal treat along with these words: “Psalm 34:6– Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.”
3. Trace the Sign of the Cross on your loved one’s forehead, and say a quick blessing over them, such as: “May God bless your day and keep you safe, today and always.”
4. On those days when courage is needed, surprise them with a sticky note in their planner, or textbook saying, “Joshua 1:9—be strong and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go.”
5. Finally, when life has been rough, give your loved one a big hug. Tell them that you love them, and share this verse with them as they walk out the door: “Lamentations 3:21-25– But this I will call to mind; therefore I will hope: The LORD’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, his compassion is not spent; They are renewed each morning—great is your faithfulness! The LORD is my portion, I tell myself, therefore I will hope in him. The LORD is good to those who trust in him, to the one that seeks him…”
