As the decorations are packed away and the glow of Christmas begins to fade, it can be tempting to think that the light of the season has passed. Yet our faith reminds us that God’s light does not fade after Christmas. It remains steady, faithful, and present in every season of our lives.
Yesterday, we heard Psalm 27: “The Lord is my light and my salvation,” which is also frequently chosen for funerals and in moments of grief and uncertainty. They are words of comfort and hope. The Psalm is a beautiful anthem for everyday living, reminding us that God’s light accompanies us not only in sorrow, but in ordinary days, quiet routines, and uncertain moments as well.
The light that shone in the manger was never temporary. Christ came to walk with us long after the carols end and life settles back into its normal rhythm. Even in the darker days of winter, God’s presence does not waver.
As we continue through Ordinary Time, may we carry this promise with us that the Lord is our light and our salvation, not just in moments of loss, but all year long.
