In Matthew 21:33–43, the tenants are entrusted with the vineyard but fail miserably to be faithful with what the owner has given them. Instead of honoring the owner’s instructions, they allow their greed to possess them, and they even murder their master’s son.

Thankfully, most of us are not greedy enough to murder, but are we all generous with the gifts God has given us?

During this season of harvest, we often take inventory of our blessings. We take time to reflect and thank God for what He has given us. God has entrusted each of us with unique gifts and talents. He calls us not to hide them under a bushel but to use them for His glory and the good of others. What better way to express our gratitude to God than to use our gifts to build His kingdom here on earth?!

Do you like to sing? Do you play an instrument? Consider joining one of the musical ensembles in our Family of Parishes. Do you have a clear speaking voice? Proclaim the Word of God as a lector. Do you like working with children? Think about helping with Discipleship Formation or other children’s programming.

Even if you don’t think you have any special or unique gifts, we all share the gift of time. Don’t let the excuse of “I don’t have enough time” prevent you from stepping out of your comfort zone to help in one of the many volunteer opportunities in our parish communities and beyond. We can all choose to make time to do something.

You’re likely already using your gifts, but we can all take inventory periodically and do more for Christ. Take time in prayer to ask God where you are needed, for the courage to step out, and to encourage others to share their gifts in service, as well. If we make Christ our priority, everything else will fall into place.
