Before You Reach for Your Phone, Reach for God

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? For many of us, it’s reaching for our phones to check messages, emails, or the latest news, but what if we reached out to God first?

I got this idea from Catholic speaker Chris Stefanick, who inspired me to begin each day by talking to God. Now, as soon as I wake up, the first thing I say is, “God, whatever today brings me, let me do your will.”

Sometimes that simple prayer leads me into a deeper conversation with God. Other mornings, I say it, get out of bed, and go about my day. Either way, I’m conditioning myself to make God my first thought each morning. One thing I have noticed by doing this, my anxieties and fears are not the first thing that consume my thoughts.

It’s not about how long we pray, but about making God a priority. So tomorrow morning, before you reach for your phone, reach out to God. It’s a small habit that can make a big difference.
