Pushing Through the Winter Slump

By the time late February rolls around, winter starts to feel like that guest who just won’t leave. The excitement of the holidays is long gone, the days are still short, and everything outside looks a little gray and tired—including us. If you’re feeling sluggish, unmotivated, or just plain over it, you’re not alone. But instead of just waiting for spring to save us, let’s take a step back and find ways to push through.

1. Find the Little Things That Lift You Up

Winter can make everything feel like a grind, but small joys can help shift your mindset. A quiet morning with a hot drink (it’s best not to speak to me until I’ve had coffee), a phone call with an old friend (not just a text!), even taking a second to appreciate the way the light hits the snow—those moments matter. Not every day is exciting, but every day has something worth noticing.

2. Do Something for Someone Else

It’s easy to turn inward when we’re feeling blah, but one of the best ways to snap out of it is to focus on others. Drop off coffee for a co-worker, check in on a neighbor, or send a random text to let someone know you appreciate them. Sometimes, a simple act of kindness is the boost we didn’t know we needed.

3. Pray—Even If You’re Not Feeling It

Winter slumps can hit us spiritually too. If you’re struggling to find motivation, try keeping it simple—just an honest, “God, help me see You today.” Sometimes, the best prayers aren’t long or eloquent; they’re real. And the good news? God meets us right where we are.

Spring is coming, but don’t just wait for the weather to change before you shake off the winter blues. Find the good, do some good, and trust that God is walking with you—even on the grayest days.
