Are you prepared?

As we continue through the Advent Season, it is essential to maintain sight of the actual message. This time of year can be frustrating: trying to find the right gift, who is hosting Christmas, dealing with big crowds at the mall, etc. Every year, we plan on starting earlier, but it never happens, and then at some point, we question, what am I doing to myself? Preparing is essential for any occasion, but to what extent or cost? Are we allowing time to properly Prepare the Way of the Lord in our hearts? Using the Advent Action Book as part of our Family of Parishes “Turning Christmas Upside Down” theme will hopefully aid in prioritizing.

During this season, we are reminded of the pivotal roles of Isaiah, John the Baptist, and Mary (and Joseph). Mary, an unwed mother, and Joseph, both with many questions, faced a unique and challenging situation. Where could she go for help, a counselor? A pregnancy center? Opportunities woman of today, have at their disposal. They had to trust in God’s plan, just as we are called to do. Their experience truly embodies the ‘upside-down Christmas’ theme.

But we can draw inspiration from how Mary and Joseph faced the challenges of her pregnancy. Mary’s unwavering ‘Yes’ to the Archangel Gabriel was all she needed to become the Mother of God. She placed her complete trust in Him. If only we could emulate this trust in God’s unconditional wisdom, many of our daily troubles and worries would be more bearable.

On January 19, 2025, our Family of Parish Evangelical Charity team is hosting an event that offers a unique opportunity to ‘Listen, Pray, and Learn.’ A speaker from Compassion Pregnancy Center will share insights on the gift of Life and the comprehensive support they provide to walking with moms in need. This event, taking place at St. Isidore Parish from 2 to 4 pm, is a chance for us to come together and deepen our understanding of the precious gift of life.
