As I look back at the past year and reflect on all that has taken place in the Evangelical Charity Ministry in our Family of Parishes, I feel deeply grateful to the Holy Spirit for inspiring another year of service to those in need.
I am sure that I would not be here encouraging others to serve if it weren’t for a most awesome and loving God, blessing me with wonderful parents, family, and friends, who through example, have shown me what it means to live as a Catholic Christian in word and action.
Like many others, I sometimes worry about what needs to be accomplished tomorrow, next week, or next month. But when do we focus on living in the moment and appreciate all God has given? Take one day at a time and ask God to guide our minds and hearts in the direction God wants us to move.
Being involved in church ministry for so long has been rewarding, working with many caring and generous people. Looking back, I have served the community and church throughout my life. I am so grateful that God has led me in the direction of Evangelical Charity more fully.
As a new year begins, have you taken the time to reflect on what God has done for you and, in turn, how you have reached out to others? We know that God works through us to accomplish his will. Have we heeded the call to serve? Today’s world leans to being more concerned about what others can do for me and how I can benefit from it. But it is in giving that we receive, not money, fame, etc., but the real blessings in life come from God, who gives us immeasurable gifts.
My goal this year (and I hope it will be yours, too) is to make an effort to be grateful for each day and what it brings (yes, our ups and downs). Realizing that God knows best and wants us to trust and not be afraid. Making each day of this new year better, taking the time to be thankful for everyone we meet and the opportunity to serve.
