Tomorrow is Halloween, and it is a great opportunity to share Christ with your neighbors. Oftentimes when we think about evangelizing we think about going door to door, spontaneously praying over people and other things that might make you feel a little uncomfortable. However, evangelizing can be simple ideas that make people pause to notice youhave a relationship with Jesus Christ. This pause hopefully will make them think “I want what that person has.” Today, I am sharing 5 ways that you can show your neighbors that your faith matters.
- Incorporate Catholic Symbols: Decorate your home or garage with Catholic symbols like crosses, images of saints, or the Virgin Mary as part of your Halloween decorations. This can spark conversations and provide an opportunity to explain the significance of these symbols to those who ask.
- Dress as a Saint: Instead of traditional Halloween costumes, consider dressing up as a Catholic saint or a biblical character. This can prompt discussions about the lives of these holy figures and why they are important to your faith.
- Offer Prayers: Invite trick-or-treaters or party guests to join you in a brief prayer before they leave your home. This can be a gentle way to share your faith and promote a sense of community. Don’t feel comfortable asking to pray with someone? Then put a sign up asking if your visitors have anything they need prayers for.
- Engage in Conversations: When people ask about your faith or decorations, be open todiscussing your beliefs. Answer questions with kindness and respect, and be ready to share the core principles of your Catholic faith.
- Invite people to our parishes: When people begin engaging with you about faith, take the opportunity to invite them to one of our parishes. Tell them which Mass you normally attend and offer to sit with them.
