In last weekend’s second reading, St. Paul urges us to let go of bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and malice. This prompted me to consider practical steps we can take to embrace love and release negative emotions. Here are four suggestions to guide us:
- Dedicate time to prayer. Although it may seem like a common suggestion, praying—especially for others—is a powerful way to cultivate peace. We all encounter challenges, but stepping back and spending intentional time with the Lord can help us recognize the blessings that surround us.
- Incorporate meditation into your daily routine. Meditation is distinct from prayer but focuses on grounding ourselves in the present moment. By spending 10-15 minutes each day grounding ourselves—perhaps by standing barefoot on grass—and focusing on our breath, we can nurture a sense of peace.
- Engage with uplifting music. Listening to songs that glorify the Lord can deepen our appreciation of God and help us reframe difficult situations. Music that uplifts your spirit can have a profound impact on your outlook.
- Serve others. When we serve others, our attention shifts from our own problems to the needs of others. This act of service allows us to feel connected to the body of Christ, contributing to making the world a better place.
I hope these suggestions inspire you to find your own path to peace and to live in the beautiful love of the Lord.LikeReply
