Spending just 10 minutes with Jesus in adoration could change your life. Yes, I am being serious–10 minutes. We all have busy lives, and it may be unrealistic to set aside more than that in a week, and that’s okay. I would venture to guess, though, that everyone can find 10 minutes to give to God during the week. Could you make that happen? Here are three reasons why I think you should and how those 10 minutes could change your life.
1. Love
Jesus loves you for who you are and what you are capable of. Usually, we are our own worst critics, and we may not always surround ourselves with people who help us feel as important and loved as we truly are. Spending 10 minutes with Jesus, the One who formed you in the womb and created every perfect aspect of what you look like and who you are, can be profoundly influential. Gazing upon someone who loves you perfectly is not something we can experience from any other human.
When we come to Mass, we join in community to praise God together. Adoration allows you to pray alone, with just you and Jesus. Surrounding yourself with Jesus gives you the graces to feel His love for you, which endures throughout your encounters with others. Knowing that you have a source from which to draw Divine, unconditional love can help you to better love others in return.
2. Rest
Our lives are busy, rushed, and noisy. We spend days going in so many directions that it’s hard to keep things straight. 10 minutes of silence in your week can detox your system from stress, anxiety, anger, and frustration. Working up to those 10 minutes may be necessary. You can always bring religious texts or play religious music through headphones until you are comfortable with 10 minutes of silence. Despite our anxiety and fears of silence, it is essential for our mental well-being. I encourage you to allow Jesus to fill this silence so you may be at rest in Him.
3. Peace
There is an overwhelming sense of peace when you spend extra time with God. Christ’s peace is something only He can give. It does not come from this world. Allow Jesus to take your stresses, anxieties, worries, and fears so you may find peace to help you navigate your week. We are called to be perfect, as our Heavenly Father is perfect, but we cannot do that without love, rest, and peace. Adoration is a beautiful and fulfilling tradition in our faith. If you haven’t experienced it, I encourage you to do so. You will not be disappointed. Jesus is waiting for you; He knows you need Him. That’s why He is still here–fully present in Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. He is alive, and we get to sit in front of Him whenever we take the time to experience the power of His unfailing Love for every one of us.
