For centuries the Catholic Church has designated May as the Month of Mary. In the Northern Hemisphere many consider May the most beautiful month of the year as nature bursts forth into new life. The month of May reflects Mary’s beauty and the new life she brought us in giving birth to Jesus. St. Louis de Montfort, in “True Devotion to Mary,” gives us ten principal virtues of Mary we are called to imitate:
- Her deep humility
- lively faith
- total obedience
- unceasing prayer
- self denial
- purity
- ardent love
- heroic patience
- kindness
- wisdom
I would also add her great strength expressed in her Magnicifat, calling all of us to be prophets and celebrate the “lowly” being “raised up to high places.
Let us turn to Mary as our model of holiness in a special way this month
